What is psychotherapy?

The word psychotherapy originates from the Ancient Greek words ‘psyche’ meaning “spirit” or “soul”, and ‘therapeia’ which means ‘healing’. Psychotherapy is a type of therapy used to treat emotional and mental health conditions. It involves talking to a trained expert about your problems and worries, and identifying the cause for your condition. Therapists will then suggest strategies for resolving your problems, help you change your attitudes towards situations, and manage relationships more effectively – with the aim to get your mental state back on track.

What is psychotherapy used to treat?

Psychotherapy can be used to treat a wide range of mental health conditions. At our London mental health clinic, we can treat these mental health issues as well as people looking to better their general emotional well-being.

Mental health conditions we can treat include (but are not limited to):

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Borderline personality disorder (BPD)
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Drug addiction
  • Eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia and binge eating
