Our self-referral MRI service is for adults aged 18 and over with non-urgent joint problems. You can book if you have:

  • Pain or discomfort in the knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, ankle or foot (we can scan up to two joints per appointment)
  • Persistent joint pain lasting more than six weeks
  • Mild degenerative symptoms

This service is not suitable for acute injuries, suspected fractures, neurological symptoms, cancer or systemic conditions, spine or abdominal complaints, repeat scans of the same joint, or lumps.

What to expect

  • Same-day or rapid access to MRI imaging by experienced radiographers
  • A focused scan tailored to the joint you select
  • A radiology report prepared by specialist radiologists
  • Follow up consultation in 48 hours with results and next steps
  • If you need a procedure or further treatment, we will advise you and arrange next steps; any procedures will take place at KIMS Hospital where appropriate.
