Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist

Dr Howard Curtis is a Consultant in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, with practising privileges at King’s College Hospital (Princess Royal University Hospital site) and a particular expertise in liver and digestive disorders. He graduated in Medicine from King’s College Medical School, University of London, in 1989, and went on to train in general internal medicine and gastroenterology at the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.
He undertook specialist training and research in liver disease and transplantation at the renowned Institute of Liver Studies at King’s College Hospital, London. In 2002, he was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist and now serves as Lead Clinician for Gastroenterology at the Princess Royal University Hospital.
Dr Curtis has clinical interests in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), chronic liver conditions, and advanced gastrointestinal endoscopy. He has published research in leading peer-reviewed journals and has personally performed more than 10,000 diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
He also has a particular interest in innovative endoscopic technologies, such as capsule endoscopy—a minimally invasive test involving the ingestion of a small camera capsule that records images of the small bowel over a 12-hour period.
With a special focus on IBS, Dr Curtis takes a holistic approach and is open to discussing complementary therapies alongside conventional medical treatments. He currently leads a NICE-funded (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) initiative aimed at improving clinical pathways for IBS patients in the Bromley area
