Mr Anil Desai

I am a specialist oncoplastic breast surgeon who graduated from India and completed all my postgraduate training in surgery in the UK. I am an alumnus of the Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School (now part of Imperial College) where I completed my research in variant Estrogen Receptor expression for an MPhil. I am passionate about my work which principally focuses on enhancing the quality of life of patients diagnosed with breast cancer. Mr Anil Desai is a Consultant Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgeon. He graduated from the MS University of Baroda in India before embarking on a surgical career in the UK. He has over 25 years of experience in breast surgery and acquired his specialist training within the North West London training program in reputable hospitals including The Royal Marsden and Charing Cross Hospitals. He obtained an MPhil from the University of London for his molecular research on a variant oestrogen receptor. He won a fellowship to observe breast cancer surgery and breast reconstructive surgery at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was appointed as Consultant Surgeon in 1999 by Bromley Hospital which is now part of the Kings College Hospital Foundation Trust. Mr Desai is on the specialist register of the GMC as an accredited Consultant Surgeon.

His passion is oncoplastic surgery and  breast reconstruction. He has performed more than a thousand oncoplastic and reconstructive procedures on the breast.  He was the Quality Assurance Lead Surgeon for the entire London Breast Screening Program for 7 years and part of a national  working group on  developing guidelines on indeterminate breast lesions. He has peer-reviewed publications on implant based breast reconstruction. He has visited many national and international breast cancer units over the years. He maintains his professional skills and knowledge through regular conferences, master classes and workshops. He helps promote understanding of breast cancer treatments through regular presentations to GPs, nurses and allied healthcare professionals.

Mr Desai’s expertise includes diagnosis and management of benign and malignant breast conditions. He uses various oncoplastic techniques when treating breast cancer and has extensive experience in breast reconstruction using implants, Surgimend and Braxon mesh, muscle transfer (latissimus dorsi). He has a busy aesthetic breast practice performing numerous breast augmentations, mastopexies (uplift), breast reductions.

Mr Desai was mentioned as one of the top 250 UK consultants in The Tatler magazine in 2013. He believes in striving for perfection and his high standards are widely acknowledged.
