He also spent a period training at Great Ormond Street, prior to completing the major proportion of his neurosurgical training at King’s College Hospital. Whilst there he was encouraged to develop an interest in vascular neurosurgery by Professor Anthony Strong and in spinal surgery by his senior colleague, Richard Gullan. He has spent time learning high flow vascular bypass techniques in Utrecht with Cornelius Tulleken.

His major interest however, lies in spinal surgery with more specific specialisation in complex stabilisation and development of new instrumentation. Although a neurosurgeon by training, he has gained much exposure to orthopaedic spinal surgery techniques with periods of time spent with orthopaedic colleagues at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore and further afield with Professor Jurgen Hams in Germany.
