We offer transvaginal ultrasounds for women that need an internal examination. This type of ultrasound allows a doctor to look more closely inside at glands such as the womb, ovaries and prostate glands.

This scan can help identify the following:

Cysts
Tumors
Signs of cancer
Signs of infections
Signs of fertility issues, ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage.
Fibroids
Polyps

You can be advise to have a transvaginal ultrasound when you a pregnant to provide more information on:

Confirming you are pregnant
Identify how far along you are in your pregnancy
Monitoring baby’s heartbeat
Warning signs for early delivery or miscarriage
Conditions that could affect your pregnancy plan

What happens during this procedure?

During this small procedure you are asked to lay on your back or side with your knees up towards chest. A small ultrasound probe is inserted into the vagina or rectum and images are transmitted to a monitor. This is a quick procedure that can cause some discomfort but not usually painful.
