We have vast experience in diagnosing and treating foot pain and ankle pain, and see many patients from a sporting background visit our clinics. With sports where there is repetitive movement or high impact, foot injuries causing discomfort and pain are common. Injuries can include a sprained or strained ankle, broken or fractured bones, muscle or ligament damage.
However, it’s not just sportspeople who come to us with pain. Those who are regularly on their feet as part of their job, lift heavy weights, or have a genetic condition may also want to seek help from a specialist.
Whether it’s big toe pain, aching ankles or heel pain, we’ve got the expertise to support you through to better physical health.
Common causes of foot and ankle pain:
- Fallen arches: this can cause discomfort and pain, and make the feet appear flat rather than their usual arched shape.
- Plantar fasciitis: this occurs when the ligament running along the bottom of the foot becomes inflamed, and can cause heel pain when walking or standing.
- Hammer toe: this can occur due to arthritis in feet, or from trauma, but in most cases can be treated.
- Tendinitis: inflamed tendons can cause ankle pain when walking, running or jumping, and are a result of overuse.
Foot and ankle pain treatment varies depending on the condition. Plantar fasciitis treatment, for example, may involve taking anti-inflammatory medication or undergoing physiotherapy in order to alleviate aching feet. Conversely, recommended ankle pain treatment could require rest and painkillers. Our physiotherapists will work with you to find the best route of treatment for your health concern.
You will be referred to a specialist who will treat you and put together a bespoke recovery plan.
