Dr Riyaz Patel is consultant cardiologist at The Bart’s Heart Centre and at University College London Hospital. He is also a clinical lecturer at UCL, funded by the British Heart Foundation to investigate causes and treatments for premature coronary heart disease (CHD). As a clinician, he has broad general cardiology experience with specialist interests in valvular heart disease, and in the prevention, investigation and management of CHD.
He is also an accredited specialist in cardiac imaging, particularly cardiac CT angiography, calcium scoring and advanced echocardiography including transesophageal and stress echo testing. Riyaz graduated from the University of London in 2001 and completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in Atlanta, USA, at Emory University. This was followed by prestigious fellowships with the American Heart Association, National Institute of Health Research and the British Heart Foundation. He has trained clinically in several centers of excellence in London and joined the specialist register in 2013.
Riyaz currently splits his time working at Bart’s Health and UCLH NHS Trusts as well as at the National Centre for Cardiovascular Prevention and Outcomes and The Farr Institute of Health Informatics in London.
