rTMS treatment for depression
Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS), the ground-breaking and highly effective treatment for depression without antidepressants, is now available at LycaHealth in Canary Wharf.
What is rTMS and how does rTMS work?
rTMS is an effective, drug-free, non-invasive and pain free treatment with minimal side effects for treatment-resistant depression – where medication and talking therapies have not been successful.
rTMS treatment involves using magnetic pulses to influence a particular area of the brain that regulates mood. rTMS treatment involves the patient lying comfortably with the machine positioned against the head. Treatment lasts for approximately 30 minutes and is given 5 times a week for a total of 4-6 weeks. Some patients have reported improvements after just one session.
rTMS treatment results for depression
Research has shown rTMS to be very effective in treating depression. The London Psychiatry Centre was the first clinic in the UK to offer rTMS and has since treated the most patients of any clinic in the UK.
60% of women and 69% of men who have been treated by The London Psychiatry Centre for Treatment-Resistant Depression (TRD) with rTMS have recovered.
The London Psychiatry Centre team has a significantly higher success rate with rTMS treatments than other clinics. The remission rate for H-coil dTMS used by certain UK centres is 31%. For the London Psychiatry Centre, full remission rate is 63%.
