Dr Shafick Gareeboo qualified in 1997 after completing his degree at the University of Aberdeen. He then moved to London where he continued his training, working at the Royal Free and Royal Brompton Hospital. While there, Shafick carried out research into the genetics of sarcoidosis. He then went on to complete his higher training in respiratory and internal medicine while working at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust.
Shafick has achieved a MSc in respiratory medicine from Imperial College.
He developed a respiratory high dependency unit at East and North Herts NHS Trust, where he worked as a locum respiratory consultant. He also led the tuberculosis service at Ealing Hospital. In 2011 Shafick was appointed as a substantive consultant in respiratory and general medicine at South London Healthcare NHS Trust and he leads the lung cancer service at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
