Richard Gullan qualified as a doctor in 1977 at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, London. He went on to complete neurosurgical training in Cambridge, Edinburgh and London before becoming a consultant neurosurgeon in 1998, working at the SE Thames Regional Neurosurgical Unit. Richard has been instrumental in developing new techniques in spinal surgery, including pioneering the first use of interbody cage fusion techniques. He has also played a key role in developing team working in neurosurgery and 25 years ago, he was the first UK neurosurgeon to introduce a multi-disciplinary neuro-oncology clinic. Richard enjoys clinical and operative teaching and is the vice chairman of the Consultant’s Committee.
